Community bulletin boards

There is nothing more important to maintaining a functioning democracy than having the public engaged with current events. By allowing everyday citizens to know what is going on within their community, local leaders may be more likely to pass legislation to their liking. For cities and towns of all shapes and sizes, public engagement can often begin with a bulletin board. Having a centralized location where people can post topics and meetings will show them what opportunities they have to let their voices be heard.

The relatively inexpensive medium can be any shape and size. But often, the bigger it is the more information that can be posted. From high school performances of beloved plays, to holding a city council meeting to discuss a contentious issue, letting people know what is going on. The location of the board will also serve as a place for people to gather and talk about the events going on in their lives and catch up on the latest news coming out of the city. These days, with the advancements in technology, some can feel disconnected by receiving information on a digital platform. Being around others with the same concerns and issues can allow people to feel a sense of community and know that many are likely to share the same thoughts.

The bulletin board can also have major benefits for the business community. If the town allows, local stores and service providers will be able to post solicitations about what they offer. In order for a local economy to function the way it should, local leadership must enable them to get their message out to neighbors. Many people take pride in shopping for items that were locally produced. The local economy can also be helped if the municipality charges a fee for putting up an advertisement. The added money will give the community more money to spend on other initiatives, including schools and other programs.

By erecting a bulletin board in a centralized location, local leaders will be able to allow residents to feel engaged and aware of everything happening in the near future. The bulletin board could also become a great way for people new to the community to get to know the area and quickly get involved in events.
