Enhanced marquee sign soon to be seen by travelers at Mohegan Sun Arena

Wilkes-Barre Township travelers will be seeing a new sign of progress when they make their way to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza - literally.

Travelers will be treated to a brand new marquee sign with LED lighting and the ability to accept live or delayed video, reported the Times Leader. For example, people passing by the stadium could catch glimpses of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey team scoring a goal, given its new capabilities.

Donna Cupinksy, Future Directions Committee chairwoman for the Luzerne County Convention Center Authority, told the news source that the new sign will arrive at the arena at the beginning of June and will be installed by the subcontracting firm Bartush Signs of Orwigsburg.

Not only will the sign represent a slick new look for the stadium, but it will also save money. The Times Leader reports that the marquee portion of the sign will bring nearly $25,000 in savings for electricity costs. In addition there will also be advertising at the top and bottom of the sign which will provide another cutback in costs.

The move toward top-of-the-line digital marquee signs can be seen in places like Birmingham, Alabama. The Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex announced that it will be installing a 35x10 foot two-sided digital board, according to SignWeb.com.

"On a rotating basis, the sign will be updated weekly to promote dozens of events held annually at the BJCC," Susette Hunter, the BJCC’s marketing director, said in a statement.
