Sidewalk signs workshop held in Florida coaches business owners

Palm City, Florida held a workshop Monday for business owners on local laws governing sidewalk signs and other forms of signage, according to a recent article.

The workshop outlined specific permit requirements, size limits and placement guidelines for local businesses putting up signs, TCPalm reported. It also coached business owners on types of signage that were not regulated by town law, including prints in store windows and A-frame sidewalk signs.

Business owners who participated in the workshop said that signs were important to the success of their companies, the article noted. Some suggested that a loosening of the sign code could help boost sales in the harsh economic climate.

"Sometimes it's as simple as allowing somebody to promote their business in front of their business while they're open," local restaurant owner Ed Ciampi told the newspaper.

Signs are reusable, low-cost promotional tools, and can be especially effective for businesses that are located along main streets or in areas with high foot traffic. Many businesses choose to use signs alongside other promotional channels such as print or broadcast advertisements.
