Vinyl Window Lettering FAQ's

  • What is vinyl window lettering?

Vinyl window lettering is a very cost-effective way to promote your business by using existing window space anywhere outside or inside your business. You can use your storefront window as busines signs. Our custom window decals can be used on your exterior window space to promote your business name, your logo, your store hours, your products, your street address, your website, your phone number, and so much more. They can also be used on interior windows for safety messages, department names, room numbers, and so on. Our window stickers can be manufactured as mirror cut to be applied to the inside of your windows to be read from the outside, or even to car rear windows to promote your business. Window decals are easy to remove, allowing you to change your messages to promote your latest offerings and specials.

  • How is vinyl window lettering made?
    vinyl window lettering office

Vinyl window lettering is produced from a computer driven plotter that has a very sharp blade to precisely cut through a thin layer of a vinyl film. Alphabet Signs uses Avery SC-950 Series die cut pigmented vinyl so the color is not just on the surface of the vinyl letters but all the way through. Avery SC-950 Series is a pigmented vinyl that comes with a 9-year guarantee against fading and peeling. We then remove any excess vinyl material so you are left with die cut vinyl characters on a wax liner. Finally, paper pre-masks are placed atop the completed vinyl letters, making it easy for customers or window lettering professionals to apply multiple letters and shapes at once. Window decals can also be digitally printed on a window cling which applies to your store window in one piece.

  • What is the difference between a window cling and decal?

There are two commonly thought of window cling lettering: static cling decals and a clear printed decal with a low tack adhesive. Static cling window decals do not rely on an adhesive so they can be repositioned and reused; think of changeable window letters. However, since there is no adhesive, this means that static clings are not resistant to weather and should only be used indoors. Clear printed decals, on the other hand, do use an adhesive to stick to the surface, and they are weather resistant. Clear digitally printed window decals are a great option for full color business logos, images or intricut detail.

  • What is a perforated window decal?

Perforated window decals use a unique, micro-perforated 3M vinyl. This durable 4 mil thick opaque white material allows you to see the printed graphic from the outside while being able to see through the window from the inside. Our perforated decals feature an aggressive 3M Comply Air Release adhesive that is guaranteed for nine years and have a pressure sensitive peel-and-stick wax liner backing. These decals can be used indoors and outdoors and are commonly used for storefront advertising and product promotion. They can be custom manufactured to cover entire windows at your business, and they also deflect sunlight to provide shade and privacy.

  • How is vinyl lettering applied?
    vinyl window lettering

As with any vinyl decal, the window must be thoroughly cleaned before starting - preferably with a 2-to-1 mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the area dry with a lint-free cloth. You might want to have a helper when applying larger decals. Apply a strip of masking tape to one top corner of your custom vinyl graphic while your helper holds the other corner. Step back to see if the decal is straight and positioned properly. Then, apply tape to the other corner, and then across the top of the graphic. This will ensure that it stays in place during application. Flip over the decal and hold the bottom edge of the graphic away from the application surface. Then expose the sticky vinyl backing by removing the wax liner. Use our free, included squeegee to press the vinyl letters on the area where you want them to appear, going from top to bottom in the motion of a windshield wiper. Be careful not to trap any pockets of air under the decal. This would create unsightly bubbles. After you remove the top layer of paper, your vinyl window graphic will appear in place and look as smooth as paint. Vinyl window lettering is easy and inexpensive.
