Portable sign letters made by Flex Change® are typically used with the roadside portable marquee signs. They are printed on thin flexible sign letter 30 mil plastic and slide in into the sign track. We use new acrylic to print the sign characters so the backgrounds are clear and clean. We do not use reground plastic which makes the background look old or striated with linear marks. Spell out any message with a dictionary of letters that flex in reader board grooved tracking.

    The most popular size portable sign letter in named 8 inch Condensed. We name the product after the character height, not the panel height. So measure both the character height and the panel height to order correctly. It should be an 8 inch letter on an 8 7/8 inch panel.

  • Can I get thicker portable sign letters so they don't blow out of my sign letter track?

    The thicker rigid sign letters made by Gemini Pronto or Wagner do not fit into the economy track which holds thin flexible letters up to 30 mil thick. You would need to re-track your sign with the wider marquee sign track that holds the 60 or 80 mil thick letters. The wider sign track is known as PUDD track for Push Up Drop Down.

    Portable sign letters are not sold individually. The flexible sign letters set are printed from a big screen with many characters and then cut down and boxed.

    Portable sign letters come in different colors but only in the 8 inch size. The colors are red, white, blue, yellow, pink and purple. Most customers say the pink and purple are a real eye catcher.

    The portable sign letters also come in 4, 6 and 10 inch sizes. The 4 inch sign letters are typically used on sidewalk signs to reach pedestrian traffic. The 8 inch size is typically used on roadside marquee signs for passing motorists. The 6 and 10 inch size are most often used on custom DIY Do-It-Yourself sign boards.

  • Do portable sign letters come in different font styles?

    The portable sign letters are printed in a block style font as it is the easiest to read quickly by passing motorist. The block style letter can be condensed to fit more characters on a row. Thus the portable sign letters come in two styles: Condensed and Block style.

  • Do portable sign letters slide in the track?

    The portable sign letters pinch between the grooved opening of the top and bottom tracks. You do not need to slide them in from the side of sign all the way along. You pinch the top edge of the sign panel into the grooved opening then tuck the bottom edge into the bottom track. There should be a slight bow so the letter is being held tight between the tracks.

  • Do you have a change arm pole and suction cup to install sign letters up high?

    The letter changer poles do not work on thin plastic sign letters because the suction cup doesn't hold the thin, narrow letters. Portable sign letters are used for ground level signs. Pole erected or aerial signs are windier and the thin flexible letters will blow out of the sign letter track.

  • Do you have any non-yellowing portable sign letters?

    We use new acrylic so the backgrounds are clear and clean. We do not use reground plastic which makes the background look old or striated with linear marks. However, the portable sign letters use an economy grade acrylic that is known to yellow and get brittle over time. There are no UV inhibitors added to the acrylic. Keeping the letters out of direct sunlight will extend the life of the product.

  • Do you have a storage box for portable sign letters?

    We offer a letter storage cabinet that holds 300 letters. It has compartments to separate and protect the letters accordingly and makes it easier to sort and carry them.

  • How many sign letters can I fit on a row?

    You can fit more condensed characters on a line than the block style letters. You can usually fit up to 18 characters per line but too many letters makes your sign difficult to read. Keep it simple. Also, you can fit more I's than W's per line and it also depends on the length of the sign.

  • Can you mix and match different size portable sign letters?

    The letters need to pinch between the two rows of track. You can only fit one size sign letter between the track opening. If the letter is taller than the track opening it won't fit and if it is smaller then it will fall out.

  • Do you have any covers to keep the sign letters from blowing off the sign?

    We do not provide covers for the outdoor marquee signs because the covers end up damaging the sign and the cabinet. The wind or vandal covers trap in the sun's UV rays and act as an oven to cook the portable sign letters and also overheating the lighted sign's electrical parts. If your sign track is too close together then the letters will bow out and act as a sail when the wind blows. Check your track opening. Some customers have added chicken wire over the face or stretched monofilament fishing line across the rows to hold the letters.
