New York handicapped stencils are made from either 1/16" thick dura-tuff plastic or 1/10" thick maxi-tuff. The dura-tuff is polyethylene designed for rugged, permanent use. But the dura-tuff is thinner so it does not lay as flat against the pavement surface and can cause paint to spray under the stencil. The maxi-tuff lays flat and can be quickly set up and moved around. It is ideal for professionals looking to get the job done. The dura-tuff requires more time to make sure you don't create under spray.
The maxi-tuff stencils are made of 1/10" thick semi-rigid plastic and can be used over and over again. These maxi-tuff stencils are better than the competitors because the material is specially formulated for pavement stencils so it weighs a little more and lays flatter. This helps prevent under-spray. This is not an off the shelf plastic, the pavement stencil material has a specific resin, produced at exact specifications, so it is virtually waveless and has a very smooth surface. These properties make the stencil lay flatter and clean up easily.
ADA compliant design
This New York handicap parking stencil measures 39"H x 34"W and its overall dimensions are 40.7"W x 48"H. The stroke (where the paint hits the pavement) is 4" wide. This handicap parking stencil is our most popular size.
The ADA compliant design has been designed and field tested by the Federal Highway Administration Alphabets for maximum legibility. All stencils are made to Federal or State specification to the best of our knowledge. However, it is your responsibility to verify size requirements as New York state specs will change without notifying us.
How to apply paint
Paint can be applied by using spray equipment, brush or roller. You can get spray equipment from Graco Sprayers, Sherwin Williams Dura Clad or Pervo Paint Ultra 9000 offer a conventional dry (non-heated application) water-based paint intended for marking interior and exterior curbing and lanes on driveways, sidewalks, factory floors, parking lots and airport runways. We do not recommend oil based paint. Please consult their paint specialist for you application.
Storage and maintenance
Stencils are made for easy clean up. When paint is dry just bend stencil or hit against hard surface and paint will flake off easily. The stencils are typically shipped rolled and should be layed flat in a warm location over night to get any 'memory' curl out. It is best to store them flat and without any weight on it. There is some UV protection in them but direct sunlight or the back of a pick-up cab would cause them to crack.
Manufacturer guarantee
The 1/10" item comes with a one year manufacturer's guarantee against tears or rips. Product life is typically 3-5 years under normal use. The 1/16" does not come with a manufacturer's guarantee and product life is typically 1-2 years under normal use.
