Patriotic feather flag violates sign rules told Arizona business owner
Author: Posted: Friday, February 25, 2011 EDT
A businessman in Arizona was recently told by city lawmakers that he needed to take down a patriotic feather-shaped sign because it violated the local sign code.

The Arizona Republic reports that Brian Epstein, who owns a Hog Wash car wash in Tempe, was told that his stars-and-stripes sign outside his business violated city sign regulations regarding holiday decorations.

Epstein said that he could not believe that the town would try to regulate something so patriotic and he had no idea why they had gone to such measures to make him take it down.

"Customers say they like them because they look like the American flag," Epstein said in an interview with the source "It's idiotic and ridiculous, I don't know how anyone with common sense could argue that patriotic decorations aren't (appropriate) for Presidents Day."

Feather signs in front of businesses are some of the most popular types of signs around today. The easy-to-install displays can get a variety of messages out, including a sale flag or holiday-related promotions that could help increase a store's profits.
