Banners draw attention to building in Michigan city
Author: Posted: Wednesday, September 1, 2010 EST
A business owner in Bay City, Michigan, is using one of the most popular social media websites to fight against a sign ordinance, asking residents how they feel about the issue.

The Bay City Times reports that Art Dore, who has been banned from using signs and banners based on his business' location in the city's historic district, recently posted a message on Facebook asking citizens if the city's action to ban signage was the right thing to do.

"If you drive through the streets of Bay City, you will see advertising banners on many businesses. With the economy we have to do all we can as business owners to boost revenue," wrote Dore. "I recently put up these banners on my building to draw attention, I believe out-of-towners sometimes mistake for a warehouse. The city officials have immediately asked for them to be removed. Is this right?"

The news source reported that the majority of Dore's 20 responses were largely critical of the ordinance and agreed with the business owner's sentiments.

Business owners have gone to great lengths around the country to speak out against what they feel is unfair treatment by city lawmakers. By getting the rest of the public behind them, business owners can sometimes see a change take place.
