New traffic signs relieve congestion near Central Michigan University
Posted: Friday, February 5, 2010 EDT
The city of Mount Pleasant, Ohio may changed its traffic signs to help relieve congestion near Central Michigan University during the upcoming college semester, according to a recent article.

Stop signs at Ottawa Court were replaced with yield signs, and new stop signs went in at Ojibway Court, Central Michigan Life reported. New traffic signs on both streets are expected to improve the flow of traffic going in and out of campus.

"People said they were having a difficult time driving through that area," Central Michigan University associate vice president of facilities management Steve Lawrence told the newspaper.

The university contacted the city last fall to have the signs changed, and city officials decided to wait until winter break to install the signs, the article noted. There are no further plans to change signage near the university.

The symbiotic relationships between many universities and their host cities demand that both university and city officials cooperate on issues related to parking, traffic signs and other ordinances. Traffic signs often play an important role in ensuring a good flow of traffic near university campuses.
